The Easiest Thing to Do on Earth Day
The easiest thing to do on Earth Day: breathe out and make a tree happy.
It’s been a rough few weeks around this house, Grant and I both got COVID and then shortly after I got a cold that I can’t seem to kick. Sleeping has been difficult, I lost my voice, and you know what… breathing has just become work.
Did I mention that Grant is two? All my Mom friends know that that means… tantrums. The dreaded terrible two tantrums. Now, I have to admit, Grant is a really good kid. He listens well, and sleeps like a hibernating bear, but with our schedule being out of whack, and him not feeling great, well… let’s just say it’s been trying around here.
So what has this got to do with Earth Day? Well… the thing that usually keeps me going are deep breaths. Yup - breathe in, breathe out - on repeat until I can figure out how to deal with the madness that is a two year old and a month of sickness.
I remember a few years ago when my nephew was a tiny guy having problems regulating his emotions I would tell him, "when you're feeling upset, you have to remember to breathe in and breathe out." The sweetest thing was, just a day later, he was practicing it on his own! He even proudly announced "Titi says this is what you do!"
Today… let’s make some trees happy and remember, sometimes the easiest way to get through things when life is rough is to breathe in, and breathe out.
The trees will thank us for it.
PS - Drinking your morning coffee out of a sweary mug is sure to make things better, too.
